Cape Town, South Africa

English version (German version below)

Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, Cape Town

South Africa is a country of beautiful landscapes – on the seaside as well as in the mountains – amazing animals to discover while on safari, great wines to taste and lovely and charming cities such as Cape Town, but also very welcoming and friendly people. That’s what I discovered during my holiday in South Africa, end of last year. Today I want to give you some insights of my favourite places in Cape Town, further posts on South Africa to follow.

Houses of Parliament, Cape Town

V&A Waterfront
The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront is a place that was remodelled from a somehow more industrial harbour into a shopping and entertaining area with lots of lovely restaurants, cafés and often quite professional open air live music performances. It is the ideal place to be outside, especially at night.

Camps Bay

Camps Bay is definitely on the list of my favourite beaches as the nature is just stunning (watch the photo). There are a lot of nice restaurants. My favourite one is the Blues. We had a lovely light lunch (green salad with duck brest and oranges) while sitting on a little private balcony and watching the sea, wow.

Table Mountain

Table Moutain is undoubtedly one of the main attractions in Cape Town. While we were there they still made promotion to be voted into the list of the Seven New World Wonders – well, they got it. While this will for sure help to even better promote this site and attract tourists you must admit that driving up with the cable car on top of Table Mountain is spectacular. You have an amazing view of Cape Town and the sea. On top of Table Mountain you can walk around for about an hour.
And, when strolling around the streets of Cape Town you see it from many places and everyday it is in another light, this is a real natural attraction.

Bo-Kaap

This colourful neighbourhood is where Cap Malay people live. Look at all the cute houses in the different colours.

Where to stay:
Generally speaking there is a large offer of B&Bs in South Africa and much less hotels than in other places. Personally I liked that a lot as we always stayed in a warm and welcoming place, got in touch with local people who were very keen to give us as much advice on what to do and where to go, in order to make our vacation as perfect as possible.

Impressions - Nine Flowers Guest House, Cape Town

In Cape Town we stayed in a lovely guest house called Nine Flowers, this is kind of a boutique style B&B. For breakfast they offer a great buffet, freshly prepared eggs and sometimes they even bake bread in the morning what is lovely as you can already smell it when you come down from your room for breakfast. When the weather is nice you can sit in their lovely arranged court yard. At Nine Flowers we got many good advices, e.g. they made a reservation for us in the Gold Restaurant. There, we took actively part in a drumming session (believe me, it is a lot of fun and you really get the rhythm) before we got served traditional African food  (in 15 courses) and watched an African dance and music show.

Kapstadt, Südafrika

Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, Cape Town

Houses of Parliament, Kapstadt

V&A Waterfront
